Paintbrush Canyon

Paintbrush Divide in typical July conditions

Paintbrush Canyon is a another very popular canyon in the Park with Holly Lake and Paintbrush Divide highlighting an extremely scenic trail that climbs nearly 4,000 feet in 7.9 miles from the Leigh Lake Trailhead. Wildflowers are abundant in late summer and the upper reaches of the canyon typically hold snow well into August.

Paintbrush Divide is guarded on the east side by extremely steep snow slopes that do not typically melt out until late July or early August.  An ice axe and/or crampons are required to traverse this pass safely in these conditions.  Inquire at a backcountry permit station for current conditions.  There have been numerous accidents over the years on these slopes so please use caution and give this trail the respect it deserves when snow-covered.
