Death Canyon
Death Canyon's striking mouth is lined on each side with towering cliffs that provide some of the steepest rock climbing to be had in the Park. This long canyon eventually gives way much gentler upper reaches that lead to Fox Creek Pass, 9.2 miles from the Death Canyon (Whitegrass Ranger Station) Trailhead.
After joining the Valley Trail from the trailhead, turn left and head over Phelps Lake Overlook and down past a junction that leads south towards Phelps Lake. Continue west through a forest of large cottonwoods and spruce tress into the steep entrance of Death Canyon. The trail climbs steeply along the north side of Death Canyon Creek to a patrol cabin and the junction with the Alaska Basin trail that heads north over Static Peak Divide. The Death Canyon trail continues (less steeply) west through the camping zone, turns south, and climbs a small headwall to Fox Creek Pass. The trail ends at its junction with the Teton Crest Trail.
