Static Peak Divide (10,800')

Static Peak Divide is the highest "pass" in Grand Teton National Park and grants access to Alaska Basin from Death Canyon via Buck Mountain Pass.  Accessing this divide from Death Canyon requires passage across several steep snowfields in early season that require the use of an ice axe to safely traverse.  These snowfields typically linger until mid July and occasionally catch hikers and backpackers off guard with their severity.  A fall on one of these slopes would have serious consequences without an immediate self-arrest.
